Title : Triage Nurse (RN)
Location : On-site, Newtown Square, PA (Flexible based on candidate location)
Schedule : Full-time, Monday-Friday 8:00am-4:30pm

Essential Functions:
- Phone Triage & Assessment:
- Conduct initial phone assessments of patients presenting with musculoskeletal symptoms, such as fractures, sprains, strains, joint pain, post-surgical concerns, and other orthopaedic conditions. Use evidence-based protocols to evaluate the severity of symptoms and determine the appropriate course of action.
- Provide Orthopaedic Advice and Recommendations:
- Offer clinical guidance on managing common orthopaedic issues (e.g., RICE therapy for sprains, pain management, mobility aids, etc.).
- Educate patients on the nature of their condition, treatment options, and when to seek emergency care or schedule a follow-up with an orthopaedic specialist.
- Prioritize and Triage Care:
- Prioritize cases based on the severity of the condition, identifying high-priority situations such as fractures, dislocations, or post-operative complications.
- Advise patients on appropriate next steps, including referral to urgent care, emergency services, or follow-up with an orthopaedic provider.
- Post-Operative and Post-Treatment Support:
- Provide guidance to patients who are recovering from orthopaedic surgeries, including post-operative care instructions, signs of complications, and rehabilitation support.
- Monitor progress of patients recovering from fractures, joint replacements, or soft tissue surgeries and provide appropriate follow-up recommendations.
- Documentation & Record Keeping:
- Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, including triage notes, advice provided, and any recommendations for further care.
- Ensure all documentation adheres to regulatory and legal standards, including patient confidentiality.
- Collaboration with Healthcare Providers:
- Work closely with orthopaedic surgeons, nurse practitioners, and other medical professionals to escalate urgent or complex cases.
- Coordinate referrals for imaging, physical therapy, or in-person consultations as appropriate.
- Patient Education:
- Educate patients on their orthopaedic conditions, self-management strategies, injury prevention, and rehabilitation exercises.
- Provide information on lifestyle modifications and strategies to improve overall musculoskeletal health.
- Follow-Up:
- Follow up with patients to assess their recovery progress, answer questions, and adjust care recommendations as necessary.
- Ensure continuity of care by facilitating communication between patients and their orthopaedic care teams.
Qualifications:
- Registered Nurse (RN) with active state licensure.
- Must be licensed and in good standing in the state where you will be working (or eligible for licensure in that state).
- Minimum of 3 years of clinical nursing experience.
- Experience in orthopaedics, musculoskeletal care, emergency medicine, or phone triage is strongly preferred.
- Strong Orthopaedic Knowledge:
- Solid understanding of common orthopaedic conditions, musculoskeletal anatomy, and treatment options (e.g., fractures, joint injuries, post-surgical care, etc.).
- Phone Triage Experience (Preferred):
- Previous experience in a phone triage or remote clinical setting, preferably in orthopaedics or related specialties.
- Excellent Communication Skills:
- Ability to communicate complex medical concepts clearly and empathetically to patients over the phone.
- Certification in Orthopaedic Nursing (Preferred but not required):
- Certification such as the Orthopaedic Nursing Certification (ONC) is a plus.
- Ability to Work Independently:
- Capable of making clinical decisions autonomously within the scope of practice while adhering to established protocols and guidelines.
