Job Description

Position Title: Transmission Planning Engineer

Job Location: 55 Technology Drive, Suite 102, Lowell, MA 01851 (Hybrid in-office / remote position)

Hours: Full Time / 40 hours

Job Duties:
  • Serve as regional planning engineer for multiple ISO territories;
  • Help developers navigate the transmission network to identify system capacity and optimal locations to interconnect projects;
  • Assist project developers in the evaluation of potential project sites to determine project feasibility and potential network upgrades and cost;
  • Develop transmission network models using PSSE, TARA, or other similar tools;
  • Perform transmission system analysis such as power flow, stability, reactive power compensation, etc.;
  • Evaluate utility impact studies, and challenge study methodology where appropriate;
  • Lead advocacy and technical negotiations to facilitate advancement of New Leaf Energy's projects;
  • Onboard and manage third party consultants to assist in engineering analysis where needed.
Required Minimum Position Qualifications: Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field of study, and 2 years in the job offered or related occupation in which the required experience was gained. Employer will also accept a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field of study, and 5 years in the job offered or related occupation in which the required experience was gained.

Applicant must have demonstrated experience with:
  • Power engineering of Transmission power systems;
  • Transmission planning;
  • Transmission system impacts associated with the interconnection of large scale generators and mitigation techniques;
  • Power systems modeling software such as PSSE, TARA, PSCAD, PSLF, SKM/ETAP, or Aspen;
  • Performing steady state and stability analysis for transmission systems;
  • Reviewing dynamic models for generator sites using PSSE; and
  • Project management
