General Summary

The Store Manager Candidate plays a crucial role in supporting the Store Manager by effectively implementing all store processes. This includes employee supervision, staffing, inventory management, and more. This position is designed to foster the development of an external candidate for the Store Manager role and is intended for a limited period.

Duties and Essential Job Functions

  • Assist in recruiting and staffing activities.
  • Support store merchandising by staging, stocking, and storing merchandise according to established practices.
  • Manage inventory effectively, including damages, markdowns, and register scanning.
  • Follow ordering practices to meet or exceed in-stock targets.
  • Provide exceptional customer service leadership.
  • Act as a role model by adhering to company policies and procedures.
  • Participate in store opening and closing activities.
  • Ensure safe deposit of all company funds.
  • Maintain financial integrity through strict cashier accountability and adherence to security practices.
  • Help maintain a clean, well-stocked store environment.
  • Operate the store in the absence of the Store Manager.
  • Review operating statements to identify business trends and opportunities for improvement.
  • Complete all paperwork and documentation according to guidelines.

Qualifications

Knowledge and Skills

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules and procedures manuals.
  • Proficient in basic mathematical calculations.
  • Understanding of cash handling procedures.
  • Ability to learn and perform cash register functions.
  • Knowledge of inventory management and merchandising practices.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Problem-solving abilities in varied situations.
  • Bilingual Spanish speakers may be preferred in certain locations.

Work Experience and Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent strongly preferred.
  • One year of experience in a retail environment preferred for external candidates.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

  • Frequent walking and standing.

  • Lifting up to 40 pounds regularly; occasional lifting of up to 55 pounds.
  • Occasional climbing using a ladder.
  • Some travel required for bank deposits and meetings.
  • Fast-paced environment with moderate noise levels.
  • Occasional exposure to outside weather conditions.

Note: This position may require some travel with limited overnight stays.
