The Emergency Department at Banner - University Medical Center Tucson, has an exciting opportunity for an experienced RN Associate Director. The Emergency Department is a 61 bed unit serving as a Level 1 Trauma Center seeing around 80,000 patients per year! We have been nationally recognized for providing exceptional patient care, teaching future health care professionals and conducting groundbreaking research. At Banner University Medical Center, there will be exciting opportunities to be a part of the health care transformation. You will work alongside a group of dedicated physicians and staff that perform some of the most state-of-the-art procedures that exist anywhere in the country.
In addition to our Adult Emergency Department, we have a Pediatric Emergency Department. We are an accredited Pediatric Prepared Advanced Care facility and a Level 2 Pediatric Trauma Center. We have a 16 bed pod housed in the northern most area of the main Emergency Department. During busier times of the year we also run a pediatric fast track with a mid-level provider and nurse. We have Child Life services available Monday- Friday and depend on our Pediatric ER nurses to provide the highest level of specialized care to our pediatric population.
In this position, you will serve as the clinical expert for staff and manage the department ensuring efficient patient care and resource utilization. You will have approximately 50 direct reports.
A minimum of 2 years of experience in managing and developing a budget, staff development, selection, onboarding and retention of new staff is required. A BSN in required, MSN is preferred. This is a day shift position, but availability to meet with other shifts is required.

This position provides managerial and clinical support to patients and staff. Uses depth and breadth of clinical management knowledge to ensure the provision of high quality, safe, and cost effective patient care. Demonstrates clinical expertise and oversees the leadership of clinical, financial, and personnel management of the assigned areas.
CORE FUNCTIONS
1. Manages and facilitates patient centered nursing care for designated patient populations by serving as a real-time clinical expert for unit staff and physicians for escalated problem-solving on patients, processes, and family issues. Manages the operations of the unit to ensure smooth and efficient patient care management and resource utilization.
2. Leads change by developing, implementing and evaluating quality and process improvement initiatives of the department in conjunction with the director. Seeks and utilizes input from staff and oversees change implementation. Ensures compliance with appropriate regulatory agencies.
3. Facilitates communication of system, regional, facility and department initiatives.
4. Manages and develops the operational and capital budgets and use of associated resources.
5. Assures the development of staff leadership through the design of effective shared leadership models and supports career advancement opportunities. Functions as a role model and encourages staff to participate in their own development.
6. Responsible for selection, orientation, on-boarding, and retention. Demonstrates leadership through coaching, performance evaluations, corrective actions, and development opportunities to create a culture of learning.
7. Manages large single unit or multiple clinical units to ensure excellent patient care. Actively develops leadership of entry level nurse manager(s) while leading clinical improvement initiatives. Internal customers include patients, staff, and physicians. External customers include patient fami
