Our client, a Boston based non-profit supporting the musical arts, is seeking an Associate Director of Prospect Research to join their team! This role is Monday through Friday onsite in Boston, approximately 30-35 hours per week, an open end temporary role, and is paying up to $37/hour depending on experience. Job Responsibilities:
- Manage new prospect identification strategies based on analysis of wealth indicators, philanthropy, interests, engagement, and connection to the organization. Conduct screening projects; evaluate and analyze results.
- Using a wide variety of prospect research resources, compose in-depth, confidential profiles on individuals, foundations, and corporations that are carefully proofread and edited for accuracy, completeness, and clarity. Provide research support for executive briefings, board nominations, and event briefings, as needed.
- Assess and assign estimated giving capacity and other prospect ratings based on financial research and analysis.
- Develop and curate a wealth screening approach and associated strategies for surfacing new prospects across a wide range of opportunities, including annual support, endowment, campaign, capital, and special project funding.
- Create concise, accurate, and timely corporate and foundation research products that include organizational history, financial data, news, philanthropic priorities and potential connections.
- Evaluate research requests to determine appropriate level of detail required.
- Update and maintain Research components of the CRM database, logging new information and requesting updates as needed to biographical and relationship data.
- Monitor various media sources and leads from development colleagues to identify new prospective donors and uncover additional information on current prospects; email relevant articles to Development staff as needed.
- Evaluate current research resources and recommend new acquisitions. Keep current on best practices in Development Research and emerging trends in philanthropy.
- Manage temporary research staff as needed; coach supporting staff member who has Development Research a component of their job responsibilities.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree required with 5-7 years of experience in development research, prospect management, fundraising and/or equivalent, preferably in an arts, higher-education, or other non-profit environment.
- High level of proficiency with fundraising databases and research tools; demonstrated ability to analyze and synthesize high volumes of information.
- Ability to accurately interpret financial data from a variety of sources.
- Strong writing skills. Must be able to draft concise research documents with attention to accuracy and detail.
- Excellent organizational skills to handle several projects simultaneously, prioritize, meet deadlines, and work independently.
- Ability to be flexible and responsive to changes and shifting priorities.
- High degree of professionalism and ethical sensitivity. The ability to handle confidential information with discretion is essential.
- Knowledge of Tessitura or other CRM databases is desirable.
